Fertilizer Canada is deeply concerned that CN Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) could not reach agreements with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC), resulting in a dual rail stoppage. Rail is vital to Canada’s economy, trade, and food security.
We are disappointed with the lack of action from the federal government despite calls from many Canadian and American stakeholders to prevent this devastating disruption. We continue to call on the federal government to take immediate action and direct the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to help all parties reach agreements through binding arbitration that prohibits TCRC from undertaking strike action and CN and CPKC from lockout action. We are calling on all political parties to support getting our railways running and refrain from making this a political issue.
The federal government should have no higher priority than getting our railways moving.
